Oxfordshire Renovation Case Study

Stratford on Providence | Waxhaw, North Carolina

existing basement

The walkout basement was a spacious unfinished interior. The home’s steel construction allowed for large open spans but structural lally columns and oversized girders were fixed elements. A sump pump and a few plumbing hook-ups were already established within the slab foundation. The walk-out side of the space had sets of windows with a central bay. Double doors, located at one of the wings, provided access to the backyard.

existing kitchen

The kitchen had high-end appliances and the homeowner liked their current positions but the cabinetry was sub-par and the peninsula disrupted the flow of the room and minimized the functionality. A small pantry was also to remain as part of the kitchen.

Kitchen Renovation

The renovated kitchen features custom cabinetry as well as a stained wood hood to encapsulate the existing industrial hood. The existing pantry is now concealed behind a secret door that blends with the cabinetry. A wine fridge with a matching panel and an upper, glass display cabinet was added to the run of cabinetry for easy access while entertaining. The new island, with durable yet beautiful quartz countertops, has ample seating and provides additional storage. The island countertop also has a curved bar seating to create a softer edge for passage.

Basement Renovation

The open layout of the basement was divided into multiple living and storage areas. The guest bedroom, with access to the full bath, has access to the yard through the existing double doors. A set of windows, directly across from the new bath with a walk-in shower, double vanity and water closet, were converted into an additional set of double doors. As a pool is to be installed, this change provides the easiest access for in and out traffic to the bath. Luxury Vinyl Plank was selected for the flooring based on it’s durability and water resistant nature. The family room was centrally located in order to take advantage of the bay of windows and natural light. Additionally, the family room has an efficiency kitchen, featuring custom cabinetry and a secret door leading to the families home gym. A oversized barn door provides the opportunity to separate the home office and lounge from the family room. The office has custom built-in cabinetry with both storage and display. The storage spaces have multiple entry points.
